We are living in interesting times. Distractions and intentional obfuscations abound. How does one stay on the ball in such a busy, information-rich environment?
First of all, I think we can say that the more simply one lives, the easier it will be to retain your focus. For me, that is an important survival skill.
You may have the simple life just right for you. Now what? How else can we foster clarity in our moments and in our mind?
Setting an intention for the day in the morning goes a long way towards focusing your mind (which is a powerful thing), and setting the tone right from the start.
Here are a few examples of intentions I have been experimenting with at the beginning of each day:
1. Presence: “Today I will be fully present in each moment of my day, letting go of distractions and focusing on the singular task at hand."
2. Gratitude: "Today I will cultivate gratitude, appreciating the small joys and blessings in my life."
3. Patience: "Today I will approach challenges with patience and understanding, knowing that growth takes time."
4. Compassion: "Today I will act with kindness and compassion towards myself and others, fostering a sense of connection and empathy."
5. Strength: "Today I will tap into my strength, both physical and mental, to overcome all obstacles that come my way."
6. Balance: "Today I will find balance in some aspect of my life, ensuring that I equally care for my physical, mental, and emotional well-being."
7. Mindfulness: "Today I will practice mindfulness, being aware of my thoughts, feelings, and actions without judgment."
8. Creativity: "Today I will embrace my creativity, allowing new ideas and perspectives to flow freely throughout the day."
9. Peace: "Today I will cultivate a sense of peace, let go of stress and anxiety, embrace tranquility, and wish the same for all beings."
10. Growth: "Today I will embrace opportunities for personal growth, learning, and self-improvement."
Choose an intention, or create one of your own, that resonates with you and aligns with your goals, practice daily, be patient and diligent, and see what happens.
You may be pleasantly surprised.
I have been.
