Dumb Consumer Item Of The Month - Stuff That Makes Us Sedentary

Spoon... so... heavy.

A lot of consumer products are things that invite us to be lazy.

The products highlighted this month are sought after by those aspiring to live in the comfortable, warm embrace of a pod, and in the meantime do less, and expend less effort while doing so.

"Work is for people that can't buy our fabulous labour-saving products."

These same advertisers claim their products are "more efficient", but there is nothing wrong with a bit of physical effort every now and then.

Lack of physical effort causes great harm. Inactivity is one of the four main risk factors for preventable chronic diseases.

Many consumer nations are experiencing a pandemic of inactivity. Levels of sedentary behaviour are twice as high in high-income countries compared to low-income countries.

The result is putting a great strain on consumers, medical systems, families, and the work place.

What, babies aren't low maintenance like hamsters?
Someone should have told me before I bought this thing.

Inactivity affects mood, muscles, bones, heart, joints, levels of blood sugar and lungs. Bones weaken, body weight accumulates, heart and other organs break down or cease to function.

Late stage consumerism is really good at encouraging and enabling stuff like that. It is not the healthiest way to go, and it could kill you or someone you love.

So go ahead and pick up that spoon, save some money, and manually stir that beverage to your heart's content.

You'll live longer, and be happier.

  1. You do realize only the mug is a real product, right? There other two are just "prank" gift boxes not actual products.

    2. First Google the item. A quick search shows the PetPetter & the Crib Dribbler are both listed as "prank" gift boxes at multiple sites. Second, one look at the Crib Dribbler and it should be obvious that such an item would not be safe for a baby. The box also lists an Infant Energy Drink as something to fill it with. There are no energy drinks for babies, in fact, energy drinks can be dangerous for children. Again, a quick Google search will lead you to information from reputable sources such as the Cleveland Clinic: https://health.clevelandclinic.org/are-energy-drinks-for-kids-a-good-idea/ to check out questionable things. As your tagline states, "intellectual laziness is intolerable," so checking facts especially things that sound too good to be true or unusual or ridiculous before spreading misinformation is always a good idea. This is my first visit to your blog and it looks like you're trying to spread reputable information to further your beliefs which is great but as you alluded to in your question, it is hard to tell truth from fiction nowadays and we all need to do our due diligence to not spread false information. Another great website to determine truth from fiction is https://www.snopes.com/ They have no agenda, have been around for years and do major facts checking to separate truth from untruths. I hope this helps. Bobi

Bobi, we appreciate your rigorous fact checking and passion for revealing the truth. One certainly does not want to be a spreader of misinformation. They tell us it is more deadly than climate change and nuclear war put together.

Here is my question - who is fact checking the fact checkers? Who is the ultimate arbiter of The Truth?

As far as the point of this post, you support it when you say that both the products in question are available as "prank gift boxes". To me that makes them an even dumber consumer product than if they were real.

As far as consumerism offering up products that are dangerous or harmful, well that happens all the time so you can't really use that to guide you to the truth of the matter. Cars alone kill more than 40,000 people every year in the USA alone, and that is no joke. Pharmaceuticals kill even more, but both are readily available. So why not a hamster-like baby feeder, or energy drinks for babies? If there is profit, it will be offered up to the consumer world, dangerous or not.

I could have used a picture of a car instead as an example of a dumb consumer product that makes us lazy.

Thanks again for your comment, and for visiting our blog. We share you pursuit of the truth.
