Are You An Activist?

Mother Nature can't speak for herself. For that we need activists.

"An activist is someone who cannot help but fight for something. That person is usually not motivated by a need for power, or money, or fame, but in fact is driven slightly mad by some injustice, some cruelty, some unfairness - so much so that he or she is compelled by some internal moral engine to act to make it better."

  1. I appreciate this quote but, I don't consider myself an activist in this area. I always worry that my efforts in one area of conservation reveal hypocrisy in another. For example, a few years ago I made the decision to stop using paper towels and paper napkins. But, I can't claim that everything about my housekeeping is green. So, I typically keep the small change to myself.

    1. You saw a problem, you took action. There are many quiet, low-key activists doing what they can to make positive changes in their own lives. Often other people see these actions, and it can have a powerful effect.

    2. Yes, my mom did find it amusing and pulled out her beautiful old cloth napkins from storage. She realized that washing a week's worth of napkins doesn't add much to the laundry pile. Small victories I guess.

  2. Every little action counts, going greener one little step at a time and the activist grows within. Pam
