“The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month.”

- Henry Van Dyke

“No matter how bad a state of mind you may get into, if you keep strong and hold out, eventually the floating clouds must vanish and the withering wind must cease.”

― Dōgen

Time for a walk in the world outside
And a look at who I am
Originally I had no cares
And I am seeking nothing special
Even for my guests I have nothing
To offer except these white stones
And this clear spring water.

- Zen poem

  1. Hi Greg,

thanks for the lovely poem and quotes. Autumn is starting here and the crisp morning air is exhilarating. We had our first Autumn fire last night - oh so cozy.

    1. Happy fall to you. Hope you had a nice harvest.

    1. It snowed here last night, but not enough to snowshoe. Enjoy the return of the light, and the heat.

  3. Hurrah! It's spring! Well, the weather not quite spring like yet in Western Oregon - rain, wind, cool temperatures. But the days are longer, the flowers are blooming, the trees are budding -- yep, its spring! And happy Autumn to our Southern Hemisphere folks - that too is a lovely time of year. - Mary

    1. Those west coast springs are amazing. Out here on the east coast it takes much longer to get springy. But once that heat hits, it lasts well into the fall.

  4. Wow! What a photo! Did you take that Gregg? I love it and Henry Van Dyke quote. We've been enjoying spring weather, blooms and green for a while now here in South Carolina. Happy Spring and Happy Autumn.

    1. Hi Terri, No it is not my photo. I love crocus, and it caught my attention while searching for images. And it looks much like the area we are in.

    2. It is a stunning photo. Judging by what I just saw in the weather forecast for your area, you could be taking a photo like that this week. Wow, snow is predicted! Maybe you can get out and hike! Forecast for my area, freezing temp on Saturday night. Almost unheard of to get that cold here in April. Weird weather. Climate Change and El Nino. I love that it is staying cooler longer, but we had some quite warm days very early which caused trees, etc to bloom, birds to nest and more. Heard some scientists say this very early warming and then cold again is not a good thing for wildlife and plants.
