Lao Zi is very good. Love the Chinese tradition. Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi. Huang Di Su Wen Neijing is great for health. Shang Han Lun the best medical classic I've seen anywhere.
Love is the foundation of our practice and in the words of Sun Si Miao medicine is the art of compassion. Peace, Alex
The photo was taken a few years ago when we lived on Vancouver Island. It was there that Linda took her last steps before requiring a full time wheelchair. We knew it was coming, so we went pretty hard on some very beautiful coastal hikes. Precious moments that we will never forget.
I can't think of a better thing to do than go hike to your heart's delight when facing a serious mobility robber. The way you two manage your life inspires me everyday. We love you Linda, your optimism showers us with hope. I can hear it many NBA articles. I'm not ruling out you walking agin either. Now we are conspiring for good things!
Thank you. The photo really highlights the attitude we have adopted to help us through Linda's health challenges, not to mention the challenges of life in general. Courage, strength and a whole lot of silliness works for us.
Sending our love to you and your mum. We hope you both are doing well with the impending difficult decisions you are currently making. Let us know how it goes.
Awww. You guys look so happy and excited about life. I love that! Go Gregg and go Linda. So many people curl up in a ball and wait for death when faced with an obstacle. You two are meeting your challenges head on. We're all here behind you and for you! I feel privileged to be part of your journey. XO
It has been 30 happy and excited years together for us. And we look forward to another 30 years of overcoming any new obstacles that come our way. Thank you so much for your support and participation. We do love our NBA community. People like you make this a nice, cozy place to spend time.
Thanks go out to you and everyone else that adds so much to what we are doing here. Our blog has brought together so many good people, and we are all better for it. So grateful for all of you.
My dad always said, "Better to light a candle than curse the darkness". We are living in the light as much as we can. A big helping of silliness helps, too! Light and love to you, and all NBA readers, silly and otherwise.
Great photo Gregg and Linda, I love your spirit :-)
I was very touched by your post about setting up a home and all of the comments received there - thank you! It has been a challenging time for sure, but not without it's rewards. The best part of being temporarily homeless, and now camping back at home (without bathroom kitchen or laundry!) is that it has meant much more time spent with friends. I have also had plenty of time chatting with my neighbours as I am constantly in the front garden - washing the dishes, washing vegetables for dinner, even cleaning my teeth! It has been great spending more time outside - why did I miss all those moonlit nights before? My sweet cat has certainly loved me being outside with her more too.
As for setting up home - less is absolutely more, but the basics are really essential! Things like a good sharp knife, a strainer to wash lentils etc...a big basin to wash dishes. It will be wonderful when we finally have a washing machine again - lugging washing across town to friends, up and down their front stairs, then back home again is tiresome, and of course wastes petrol. Once the basics are in place it is easy to feel content.
A lot of sharing has been required to get us through this period. I found people so open hearted. We were offered keys to so many houses, for showering, washing etc..as well as people lending us many items we needed to get by - from pots and pans to secateurs! Really people are fundamentally kind, somehow that can just get lost in the rush of modern life.
So with about three more weeks until our home is really ready to live in again, I am determined to spend a bit less time working, and a lot more time in nature and with those I love. Thank you again for all of your wonderful thoughts and comments NBA friends.
Welcome back Madeleine!! I've missed you so much! It's good to hear how you are doing, I've often wondered. I love hearing how you are managing. It's so uplifting! Hearing your experience of so much kindness and generosity bestowed by others renews my faith in humanity. It makes the world a warmer more hospitable place.

Alex,
DeleteWe will be looking up some of those that we are not familiar with yet. Compassion is indeed good medicine.
So true! Love this quote and photo.

And Linda never rules out walking again some day.
