Spring Blessing
One day you wake up
able to name the weight
you’ve been carrying.
Realizing it’s not part of your body or your being,
not essential in any way to journeying or joy,
you set it down gently, without fanfare
in the long soft grass at the side of the road
and walk on
surprised to find yourself
smiling in the warm sun
for no particular reason.
- Oriah Mountain Dreamer
Thank you for posting this. It was pretty much exactly what I needed to read this morning.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of Oriah Mountain Dreamer before your post, so I did a search for her online and found her website. On her website I read something else that was also pretty much exactly what I needed to read this morning.
I always enjoy reading your posts but this one in particular met me in just the right place at just the right time.
This poem also struck me when I read it. So much of modern life is "not essential in any way" to our journey or joy. I like to set such stuff aside and "walk on" in my own way.
DeleteGlad this made your day, and hope you have a good one.
Beautiful poem... Thank you! :) We add a lot of unnecessary weight to our daily travels.. it's good every once in a while to stop and leave it behind us.
ReplyDeleteSpring, a time of new beginnings, is a good opportunity to have a go at jettisoning the unnecessary and unwanted baggage. I haven't missed anything I have left at the wayside during my journey so far.
