It doesn't matter what you call them, their power is readily acknowledged. I am talking about affirmations, prayers, requests, or the act of manifesting.
Thoughts, words, and intention are how we shape our world. They can be used in positive and negative ways, so are best approached with humility.
In Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith, Anne Lamott writes that the best two prayers she knows are, "Help me, help me, help me" and "Thank you, thank you, thank you."
It does not matter if you are sending your thoughts and words out to "God" or "The Universe" - I believe they are the same, and that the thoughts and words will have the same effect.
In her book Anne Lamott also mentions a friend that makes me laugh with her simple approach. The friend's morning prayer each day is "Whatever," while her evening prayer is "Oh, well."
While that is funny, if I had to choose I would take "Help me," and "Thank you". It is important to think good thoughts while manifesting your life.
"With our thoughts, we make the world." - Buddha
Anne Lamott's writings are always inspiring. For sometime I avoided any mention of the spiritual, including prayer, but I've come back around and realize that I need to speak out to the Universe, be grateful, ask for help, and just sit in a space of peace.
ReplyDeleteMiss Marla,
DeleteI think what you described is the basis of all religions and spiritual practices. It reminds me of the Hawaiian Ho'oponopono Prayer: "I am sorry, please forgive me, I love you and I thank you."
If only everyone understood that we shape our world with our thoughts...and that positive ones help not only us, but the whole world too. It's very good to know you are kindred spirits...If you lived in the next town, I'd cycle over and invite myself for a cup of tea!
ReplyDeleteCharlotte,
DeleteWe would love to share a cup of tea with you. You could put your bike in the garage and come on in. We have a comfy rocking chair in front of the wood stove for you to warm up. If that is not possible we will have to keep meeting virtually here on NBA.
Author Greg Braden figures that when a large enough portion of the population gets together at the same time and meditates on the same positive thoughts that it has the potential to instigate wonderful things for everyone. We are more powerful than we think.
