Community Food |
My mom Margaret, and my sister's daughter Kayli came to visit us from the mainland for a few days. Yesterday we took them to see the community garden, and ended up staying and exploring for several hours.
Before we reluctantly departed, we all agreed that it is a magical place.
|
The garden is more like a park where food grows. |
|
We found ripe strawberries... and ate some of them.Yum! |
|
We looked at all the flowers, and Kayli took photos. Lots of great photos. |
|
I did some gardening in our 4X8 raised bed. Half is in strawberries, the other half
currently has chard, kale, beans, potatoes, and sunflowers. |
|
We visited the pond and watched tadpoles and bugs. |
|
Then it was time for lunch. We sat, relaxed, and enjoyed each others company.
Linda is under the hat, Kayli is with her, and my hungry mom is in the background. |
|
Next time we will make pizza in the cob oven. |
|
A bald eagle came to visit before we finished lunch (look up, way up). |
|
Before the eagle left she flew over the garden, and us.
After a great day we returned to our home, sweet, home on the beach.
It is fun to have visitors and share our simple life with them.

How nice to have visitors! Kayli took some great pictures, she has a good eye.
ReplyDeleteI'm so envious of the community garden. But am so excited that my potted strawberry plant has berries. They aren't ripe yet, but I'm hopeful!
Even though we've never met and don't really "know" each other, I often think of Linda and how she is doing. When I struggle with something, I wonder if she struggles with that same thing too. Life sometimes would seem easier if I used conveniences, but I know that someone else is out there trying to live with the challenges of a simple life, when life presents added challenges.
Namaste, Marla
Hey Miss Marla,
ReplyDeleteWay to go on the strawberries. The berries in our own garden aren't ripe yet either, but they are getting bigger all the time.
Thank for your thoughts concerning Linda. We think of you often, too. It has been great getting to "know" you better via our communications here.
You will be happy to hear that Linda is doing very well. 2 years ago we went to San Diego and she was treated for CCSVI, which turned out to be associated with some of the symptoms she was experiencing (she has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis).
Many symptoms went away, or got better DURING the 45 minute venoplasty procedure. It was amazing.
She has continued to show improvements as time goes on, but some of the damage may not be reversible. Our goal is to have her walking, at least with the aid of a walker, and we have been doing a little bit of aided walking every day lately.
We can relate to the convenience thing - we don't even have a wheelchair accessible home! There are many inconveniences in our life, but we try to see it more as a challenge rather than a barrier. We have been a solid team since the day we met, and together we manage to get through things quite successfully, and usually with a lot of laughter.
We count our blessings and realize that things could always be worse. Linda and I hope you are well, and look forward to future communications.
Hello to Gregg and Linda from the prairies,
ReplyDeleteHad to snoop, love the pictures, thanks for posting. Looks like a lovely and memorable afternoon. You both look great, happy and healthy. We will chat soon.
Our onions overwintered and we are eating from the garden. Lettuce, beets, potatoes, purple beans are up. We helped George and David plant their garden and we were gifted 3 healthy tomato plants as well as some heirloom "Jensen" purple potato seeds, got 7 rows. Living things want to live.

Much Love

Mik n Bill, thanks for dropping by. Congrats on the garden yummies - sounds delicious. Enjoy your garden this summer.
DeleteLovely to see a picture of you both, I've been wondering what you look like! I thought of the line from Rocky Mountain High- "You know he'd be a poor man if he never saw an eagle fly..."
ReplyDeleteMarcy, we are rich with eagles around here, and see these magnificent birds almost daily. It is almost time for the young eagles to fledge.
DeleteWOW!! You are so lucky! it looks like heaven!
ReplyDeleteSavvy Sister, the west coast of Canada is very beautiful, and that is why we chose it. Plus, it doesn't snow here often, and one can garden year round. We love it.
DeleteMom is recovering from the radiation treatment for her brain tumour (meningioma). We will find out in August (MRI) how things are going. At the moment she is doing great, and we really enjoyed out visit with her.
Hope you are well.
I am so lucky to have such incredible family members like Gregg and Linda! Thank you both for opening up your home and sharing your world with me. You two are a total inspiration and I am beyond impressed with the way you are rolling with the punches as a team. Laughter seems to be the key. The conversation with you two is always stimulating and I always leave feeling invigorated and motivated to act. Im very much looking forward to more visits and more dialogue about the things that are occurring around us that most people seem to be turning a blind eye to. So thank you for being my totally awesome Aunt and Uncle!
ReplyDeleteLots of Love,
Kayli
Kayli, We enjoyed having you stay with us, and look forward to future discussions about the state of the world and our place in it.
DeleteCongratulations on your recent graduation from university. Go get em! There is unlimited potential for doing good things, and your heart is in the right place.
Love Gregg and Linda
