How do you define success?

  2. I'm proud to be as "unsuccessful" as I have become. In fact, after quitting my job I've discovered many are jealous of my new found anti success. One indicator of my new unsuccessful lifestyle, as noted above, is more time walking and riding a bike and less time driving and fighting traffic. That's just the kind of failure as an American consumer (note we're no longer citizens now) I'm working to become!

  3. Savoring Servant,

Congratulations on your anti-success. I, too, am a proud failed servant of the system. No full time job, no mortgage, no expensive trips to exotic locations, no debt, no schedule. Just freedom. Sweet, glorious freedom. Like Jack Kerouac said, "Better to sleep in an uncomfortable bed free, than sleep in a comfortable bed unfree."

Wishing you continued success in your anti-success.

I like the idea of not working, but what about retirement? You can't not work for the rest of your life. What do you do when you get old? You can't really go back to work, no one would hire you! And after social security runs out (if it's still around by then) you will most likely end up on the street. And being an old man, I would not want to end up on the street. That is what does keep me working. I'm sorry to be the pessimist, but that is what keeps me working (as much as I hate it and some people claim to love it). But if I were rich and would receive royalties, or dividends and not have to worry about currency, then I would be more than happy to quit!
